We all have heard of the sparkle factor of a diamond. There is a very logical reason that this characteristic of diamonds is such a universally-known fact - the simple physics of the way their facets align after they are cut.

Although the term “diamond cut” is interchangeably used with “diamond shape”, the proportions retained after a rough diamond is cut and polished is actually what this term stands for when it comes to the ‘4 Cs’. These proportions are what makes a diamond reflect light and attain their distinctive sparkle. No matter how clear and colorless a diamond might be, if not cut at an appropriate depth, it will not reflect enough light to achieve the sparkle you would normally expect of a diamond.

Curiously enough, round diamonds are the only “diamond shape” that receives a cut grade, due to the strict standardized guidelines at which they are cut. Diamonds of all other shapes, often called “fancy shapes”, are cut and polished in a more artisanal manner and are not categorized for their cut grade.

Given the ever-increasing demand for “fancy diamond cuts”, Ringvente prides itself in its exclusive selection of diamond cuts. All our diamonds are individually inspected by the most expert of eyes to ensure that every Ringvente diamond is of optimal reflectivity and sparkle.

Colorless and near-colorless diamonds are extremely rare gemstones and are color-graded based on a highly precise scale that ranges from ‘D’(absolutely colorless) to ‘J’(light yellow hue, nearly undetectable to the naked eye). This grading scale can go up to ‘Z’(brown diamonds). Ringvente is a strong advocate of the highly precise methodology used by GIA when determining a diamond’s color.

Absolutely colorless diamonds (F - E - D) are mostly solely purchased for investment purposes and can be an unnecessary choice when it comes to jewelry. Our team of gemological experts believes that the optimal grades of diamond colors for jewelry are situated within the ‘G - H - I’ near-colorless range. In fact, Ringvente will normally not sell center diamonds within the ‘K thru Z’ range, as these are no longer near-colorless and carry a perceptible yellow tint.

If you don’t see an available “Diamond Grade” option with your desired diamond color in our customizer, please choose the closest available option to your preference and select our “Tailored Selection” experience under “Diamond Selection”. You will be charged a 10% deposit of your order’s total estimate based on your current selections. Upon checkout, you will be able to schedule a consultation with us so that we can help fine-tune your diamond color of choice.

Flawless (FL):
Rarest possible clarity. No blemishes or inclusions visible to naked eye, or under GIA’s ‘10x’ clarity grading magnification standards.
Internally Flawless (IF):
Very rare clarity. No inclusions or blemishes visible to naked eye, or under magnification. Little to no blemishing at diamond surface.
Very Very Slightly Included (VVS):
Outstanding clarity grade. Clarities above VVS are an unnecessary choice for jewelry. Few small inclusions visible only to the trained eye, and when magnified.
Very Slightly Included (VS):
Often the most popular choice for jewelry. Small inclusions visible under magnification and no inclusions spotted to the untrained naked eye.
Slightly Included I (SI1):
Very good value. Small inclusions might be visible to the trained eye, under the right lighting. Ringvente recommends ‘SI1’ or less included options for step-cut diamonds (emerald and asscher).
Slightly Included II (SI2):
Best value for faceted cuts (round, oval, marquise, cushion, princess, asscher, pear). Inclusions visible under magnification but likely not visible to the untrained naked eye.

The natural processes that have led diamonds to form under extreme heat and pressure in the deep Earth, often resulted in other minerals and impurities becoming encrusted within them, creating what is called included diamonds. Jewelry-worthy diamonds as we typically know them are mostly unincluded, and only account for an infinitesimal portion of all diamonds present in our planet.

The lesser inclusions a diamond has, the higher its clarity and ultimate value. In fact, clarity is the main factor in determining the quality of a diamond. Ringvente trusts the Gemological Institute of America’s clarity grading scale and only works with GIA-certified diamonds of clarity grades of SI2 or better. Please refer to our diamond inclusion matrix below to understand how the different inclusion grades compare:

VISUALIZING DIAMOND CARAT WEIGHT

Selecting the perfect carat weight diamond is a crucial decision you will need to make while designing your ring. The size of your diamond is ultimately informed by its cut shape and carat weight. Ringvente has prepared this guide to help you visualize how different carat weight selections will look in comparison to one another.

If you are looking to get a better grasp on how these dimensions will look in real life, feel free to print our pdf chart on a letter-sized sheet of paper. Ensure to set your page scaling to 100% (1:1 ratio) in order to print accurate dimensions.

Check out our Visualizing Diamond Carat Weight Chart to learn more about how different diamond cut shapes look in comparison to other cuts of the same weight.

Even though diamonds are often described for their “size”, the carat of a diamond is associated with the weight of the stone, rather than its dimensions. This is because using size to describe diamonds would prove to be a deceiving practice, since different diamond cut shapes of the same carat will have different dimensions and surface areas.

When it comes to top dimensions (WxH), a 3-carat Marquise-cut diamond typically measures ‘14x8 mm’, when an asscher diamond of the same weight is typically ‘8x8 mm’, which makes it appear much smaller. This is because different diamond cut shapes carry their weight differently than others. Feel free to use our customizer to have an idea of how your preferred diamond cut will look at different weights.

If you are looking for a “Diamond Weight” above 6 carats, please select the highest available weight option for your diamond cut and select our “Tailored” experience under “Diamond Selection” in our customizer. You will be charged a 10% deposit of your order’s total estimate based on your current selections. Upon checkout, you will be able to schedule a consultation with us so that we can best accommodate your diamond weight of choice.
